Enda Kenny, Crumlin Road courthouse fire and Peace Protests on Twitter

Enda Kenny, or at least someone behind the scenes at Fine Gael, made a brief appearance on Twitter in February, but there's been no more activity since. Enda's sloganising would seem to suggest that he doesn't really get how it works...

Meanwhile, I was chatting to Mick Fealty of Slugger O'Toole fame earlier when I spotted out the window that Crumlin Road courthouse was ablaze. Mick blogged and I tweeted. I managed to get a few pics taken on my Blackberry and got them online via TwitPic. For better or worse, the Victorian courthouse is a Belfast landmark and it's a great shame that someone has seen fit to set it alight. At the height of the inferno, ten fire engines were deployed to tackle the blaze. Let's hope the main fabric of the building was survived.

Twitter also figured prominently yesterday with tweets from the peace protests across the north being aggregated on a live blog featured on Slugger O'Toole.

Last month I outlined my scepticism of the value of Twitter. Suffice to say I've been converted.

Keep twittering Gary !
Sorry to see the courthouse go up - if the hotel doesn't come of I think it should be turned into a meseum of belfast or something - belfast is short on museums nd this would complement the gao across the road which is a an extremely good atttraction

Let's hope Enda isn't arrested for conspiracy to commit treason. Ironic given that YFG once said to me, "I never knew SDLP Youth had a revolutionary communist wing." I added you to my blogroll on www.roevalleysocialist.com, keep up the blogging and the twittering!

excuse me my friend SDLP are not the only socialist part about, we have Eirgi and the Workers party, althought Eirgi arent in politics yet they will be soon. people need to stop blaming them of paramilitary style attacks first. its not them. i should know. and as for putting a Hotel there it would looks brilliant however i think it could go to greater use for instance a musem which includes articicles from 1845 right up to 1996 may that be shankil road buthcers memrobilas or even the apprentice boys lets not forget there is alot of history in that prison and court house. my father was sentenced in that court house and was to serve 10 days however after serving 3 months on remand before his sentence 10 days in to his sentece he escaped. that means alot to me and im sure martin meehan R.I.P wouldnt like to see it go. lets not forget the 17 executions carried out there 15 of bodies still remain in that prison they were given their sentences from that court house. be a shame too loose all that history. some may say its burnt down now what else can be done if we put money to it it could become another part of the tour going through the tunnel. its just up to stormount now as they are the ones who are incharge of it. still be a shame to see it go.
